Hello Parents and Guardians
I am currently the ELA teacher for class 401/402, entering my 6th year at P.S 115. I have a Dual Masters in General Education and Special Education as well as a Dual Bachelors in Psychology and Africana Studies. I grew up in Brooklyn, with my formative years spent in Crown Heights. I attended Bilingual School, P.S 189 and Brooklyn Technical High School (Go Technites!).
Prior to becoming an educator, I worked as a Social Worker, for nearly 15 years, in various sectors, from at-risk youths to families in crisis. I decided about a decade ago to transition to education, when I realized that my love of children, life long learning, and the nurturing of young minds would be well served in a classroom setting. I think I may have been on to something because it’s been quite rewarding and a joy!
My background as a social worker has allowed me to see the educational experience holistically. All children have the ability to learn and thrive, when we stop to see the stories they tell, not just through their grades, but through their words and behaviors. In the hectic pace of the day to day classroom, my goal is to always return to this lesson.
I look forward to working in partnership with you all this year.
