Cooking Club
Common Threads Cooking Club:
Common Threads is a cooking and nutrition education program taught by trained chefs to provide training to our students focusing on culturally-responsive nutritious recipes, cooking equipment, knife skills and kitchen safety. Cooking club consists of 30 minutes of in class instruction and 1.5 hours of hands-on kitchen instruction. Each week, students will “visit” a different country. They will spend time learning about the country, and then make a delicious dish from the country. Each student is given a cookbook, which they can take home with them.
Cooking Club Testimonies:
“Common Threads cooking is amazing! Not only did our students learn how to cook wonderful healthy meals, they learned basic kitchen skills, such as cutting, chopping, peeling, grating, mixing, etc. Our favorite part of this program is that each week we went to a different country. The students learned about different countries around the world, and then cooked a healthy dish from the country. Students were engaged and looked forward to cooking every week!” Ms. Faith
“ Hi Chef Kathy, one thing I liked about cooking is I liked when we made home-made dumplings and when we made some chicken tenders and when we made desert. It was strawberry and yogurt and the granola crumble” Sky
“I loved cooking every week. My favorite part was getting to go into the kitchen and cut up and chop food. I wish I could come back and do it again next year but I am graduating. My favorite country was Italy and we got to make our own pizza’s.” Brelle
The Small Bites Program:
